So tomorrow, Saturday the 29th, is the highlight of the season at the Saratoga Race Course: The Travers Stakes.
Travers is limited to three-year-olds, colts (male horse under the age of four) and geldings (castrated horses...ouch) carrying 126 pounds and fillies (female horse under the age of four) carrying 123 pounds. Since 1999 the purse has been $1,000,000. Yowza!
Last year the winner was Colonel John (inside horse):
So being that Travers is the biggest day at the track for the year, all of us girls have a very important issue on our minds: WHAT SHALL I WEAR!?
For me, comfort is just as important as fashion when going to the track. That is the last place I want to be in something uncomfortable. The seats (if you're lucky enough to have one) are uncomfortable, you're climbing over people to place your bets, the restrooms are icky public affairs, and it's usually hot and sweaty!
For those reasons, I think the best bet is a comfy dress and a statement hair clip. Yes, that's right...I didn't say a hat. Hats are so very traditional and on-mark for certain ladies. However, I prefer a little different approach with a large flower or feathers in my 'do.
If I was buying a new outfit for the event, it would be this configuration.
This Wandering Ways dress by French Connection is in a wonderful peacock blue color, 100% cotton, machine washable (yeah!), and has the cutest little shape with the coordinated belt. Plus check out the pockets! $168. The other thing I love about this dress is that it can easily transition into fall.
Because I've received so many great comments from y'all on the headband I'm wearing in this photo shoot, I made another very similar headband for this week's giveaway.
This week's give-away is a headband made from emerald green satin ribbon and feathers. The center gem is a vintage gold-tone Girl Scout badge (sweet!). Headband is stretchy black elastic. $39 value.
Wear vertically or horizontally!
Leave a comment on any (or every) blog post between now and Wednesday, September 2nd. I'll draw, at random, the winner at the end of the day on Wednesday. The more comments you make, the better your chances of winning.
PLEASE leave your email address, too, so that I can get ahold of you when you win.
I'm posting lots of new headbands, like this one, on my web site today, too. Click here to check 'em out.
Congrats to the gals over at The Velvet Fly for being selected as one of the top 50 Best Fashion Stores by Marie Claire!
Read all about it here. For those of you who like your printed pubs, the story is also in the September issue.
Twinkle Studio is honored and pleased to have earrings, rings, necklaces, and bracelets in The Velvet Fly...especially with this notorious designation.
Marie Claire says: This cozy boutique mixes one-of-a-kind vintage pieces that date as far back as the ’30s with new retroinspired items from designers like Kensie, Tulle, and Hype—all for less than $300.
But, seeing her here with Marc Jacobs is really a trip.
Miss Piggy visited Jacobs's Spring Street headquarters to pick out a dress for Macy's Glamorama party. Jacobs created the couture gown (pictured on Piggy) in black taffeta, embellished with matte white stones and accessorised with pearls and her signature elbow length gloves. Love it!
My friend and talented photographer Kristin and I had a photo shoot last Saturday...in the rain and humidity! Oy!
I'll be sharing some of the great shots from that adventure, but I first wanted to show you some of the out-takes and bloopers. Mostly because they make me laugh out loud, but just as a reminder that behind every great photo there are several that are hideous. So take a lot of pictures, gang!
Drooling my "cosmo!" It was really some kind of pink Sobe drink, but it sure looked like a cosmo. Tasted cruddy. My bracelet and ring are cute!
Putting on jewelry for the next shot! Can you believe my hair was full-on Shirley Temple curly just about an hour before this? Damn humidity!
Uh...yeah. Not the best. Check out my death stare!
POP! Goes the bubble. That darn bubble gum did not want to cooperate.
Freaky fingers! Gorgeous jewelry!
Blowing...and yet...no bubbles emerge. Argh! But the Twinkle Studio headband rocks!
You can create an updated hippie style on a dime and in a few minutes...even if you don't have your own stylist like hippie girl Nicole Richie.
By simply selecting one or two of the accessories below, you can bring that 60's flare into your wardrobe. Please don't go overboard and attempt to pull off a look with more than one of these elements. You'll end up looking like you're trying too hard.
Fringe it up! Take your pick between shoes, boots, or sandals. Just be sure to add a bit of fringe. The Minnetonka brand has all three covered.
These sandals are so much fun...and they're on sale for $19.97 from Piper Lime.
If you're getting ready for fall and want to sport a boot, try these. They're even named Woodstock. $80.
This year is the 40th Anniversary of Woodstock. Peace, man!
I've had the opportunity to visit both the town of Woodstock (read all about it here) and the actual location of the concert, which is now called Bethel Center for the Arts and it has a cool museum and outdoor venue. Both are fantastic experiences!
I grew up as a hippie child. My mom was a total earth mama (see for yourself) and my dad was a long-haired, Vietnam-veteran motorcycle man. Check me out here...totally rocking the denim pants with flowers and bandana!
I'm not sure I'd roll with denim pants with flowers again, but I love so many of the fashions from that time.
A basic tunic and lots of beads and necklaces...classic.
A floppy hat, paisley scarf, and jewelry rule this look.
Lush jewelry! I absolutely love this photo.
These are iconic looks that can be gorgeous today. A little hippie vintage, a little modern. Check back tomorrow for updated looks!
